Introduction:
Initiated by doctoral students from the Department of Geography of the University of Hong Kong and the Department of Building Services Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the team aims to adopt LoRa technology in modernizing the existing distance post and expand the real-time weather observation network along the hiking trails and campsites. MacLehose Trail (Section 4) was chosen for the trial to provide latest updates on microclimate forecasts and evacuation suggestions, in hopes that the solution can improve the safety and comfort of hikers more effectively.
The design of a product solution always starts with an unrealistic idea and then is "implemented" for hundreds of thousands of tests and improvements. But before everything starts, the opinions and participation of various stakeholders are the golden key to make the plan a success.
The team is honored to invite Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong (ELCHK) Grace Youth Camp to be the first NGO collaborator on this project. The team visited the museum and initiated a consultation session with the curator and staff. Meaningful feedback on the sensors design, and the selection of potential trial sites inside the campsite area were discussed.
